Criollo horse
| Diablo, the
mascot |
 Diablo
has been Gerard Barré's saddle horse since June 1998.. Like the
majority of his fellow Criollos, he suffered a brutal breaking and
training in Argentina, and fears man. Daily contact, patience, kindness
and an approach corresponding to animal behavior have helped him
to overcome, quite rapidly, his fear and to establish a durable,
trusting relationship. One must devote the necessary time to obtain
recompensation. The Criollo is a pleasant horse to ride at all speeds;
the small gallops over miles are a real treat. Forward-looking and
solid under the saddle, he fears nothing, and possesses incredible
endurance, resistance, and will.

Diablo's color
Gateado pampa, calzado de tres
y botas con delantal
Diablo has a dun colour and his
head is pampa (the white covering both eyes), he has three white
stockings and a white apron (the white color goes up from his hind
legs to his thigh onto his genital parts), that would appear if
the horse stood up like a human. Finally, Diablo could also be classified
as albo due to the white patch on his front right leg.

For the last twenty years, I have
spent my free time among horses. Barbes, Camarguais, and of course,
Criollos are my particular favorites.
Mountain
trailriding is my preferred activity. Alone with my two horses,
a saddle horse and a pack horse, I have crossed landscapes as difficult
as the Alps during several weeks, during my vacations. The Vercors,
the Chartreuse, the Ecrins Massif, the Dévoluy are my adventure
grounds. Fascinated by studies on animal behavior in their natural
environment and equine psychology, I have recently started employing
the methods of Pat Parelli.

Basha
O'Reilly has joined the small justacriollo.com team, and from now
on will write the English version of the site.
Basha is a perfect example of the
international character of the site. A Long Rider, with dual Swiss
and English nationality, she is currently living in Kentucky in
the United States. Basha is married to our American friend CuChullaine
O'Reilly who is a horseback traveler, journalist and author.
Together, they formed The Long Riders Guild, which is now
in the process of gathering together all the equestrian travelers
on the planet. Basha is the webmaster of The Long Riders' Guild
website.

Horses
have always been my passion. Even as a child, they were the center
of all my thoughts, which my parents could never explain. My family
was never involved with horses.
In 1990, upon my father's return
from Argentina, we looked at the pictures he had taken of horses
in the Pampa, and he told me all he had learned about the Gauchos.
In 1993, I began my university
studies and felt the need to explore this Spanish-speaking country.
In my third year of studies in Rennes, Juan José Saer's classes
on Martin Fierro put my foot in the stirrup. In 1997 I took part
in a university exchange program and spent a year studying at the
University del Salvador in Buenos Aires. During that year, I visited
the Pampa and several estancias, notably that of Mr. F.J. Ballester,
of which I have many fond memories.
These studies lead to very specialized
works, including the achievement of a master's thesis in Spanish
on the theme of horses in Argentine literature from Facundo to Don
Segundo Sombra. Later, in 1998,a second thesis was completed comparing
the Argentine gaucho to the North American cowboy.
Finally, I am now working on my
doctoral thesis, a study of horses and Indians in the history of
Argentina, directed by Mr. Jean-Pierre Sanchez at the University
of Rennes II; it is scheduled to be finished in 2001.

Born
in Buenos Aires in 1961, my passion for horses and drawing has followed
me since childhood. At home, I spent hours drawing everything I
saw, but my love for horses influenced all my work. Self-taught,
my work is based on observation of the animal, study of its posture,
its walk, its colors and the environment in which it lives.
A few years ago, I felt the need
to add color to my horses, and I chose the technique of watercolor.
Amazed by the purity and transparence of this art, I use it constantly.
I have completed works for French
equestrian reviews, participated in several expositions in Buenos
Aires, and I currently organize a web site.

At the age of ten years I learned horseriding,
so I have been fascinated by horses for more than 35 years. For
over 25 years I have lived with my own horses, for the last 6 years
with a Criollo mare from Argentina, and she is my very best one
! Another Criollo gelding from Uruguay has been in my family for
two years, he is ridden by our 11 year old son.
I
work for the public relations of the German Asociation of Criollo
Breeders, CRZVD. So I'm very interested to give multilateral information
of the site justacriollo.com to all German speaking people, who
are fascinated by the Criollo horse. This is the reason why I decided
to do the German translations and give my help to the team of justacriollo.com.
