Outline of Criollo colors

More than 100 shades and sub-shades are used to describe the colors of the Criollo horse, and each color is designationed by a distinct term. This demonstrates the imagination and poetry present in the Pampa, especially in the minds of Gauchos...

It is important to point out that the Argentine people distinguish between a capa, or dominant color of the horse (alazán, tostado, tordillo, bayo, gateado, etc) and a pelaje, which designates all the characteristics of the color (malacara, picazo, pampa, etc).
